AIMS+: Avenues Into Math and Science
Avenues Into Math and Science+
At Bard, we understand that the paths people follow into the study of science and mathematics are rarely straight. The AIMS+ program makes it possible for students to explore these fields from broader perspectives, creating space for diverse backgrounds and a range of possible academic and career tracks.

Math and Science Courses

We offer math and science courses that meet students at their level.
We also offer humanities courses that connect science to broader topics. Bard encourages interdisciplinary study, early laboratory experience, and short supplemental workshops to strengthen one’s high school coursework. Students have the opportunity to consider how societal, philosophical, ethical, aesthetic, and historical topics influence and are influenced by the sciences, and to engage in hands-on research projects from the moment they begin their studies at Bard.

AIMS+ Fellows

AIMS+ Fellows are Bard students who may or may not have previously pursued science and math in high school, and are looking for an avenue into these fields of study.
AIMS+ Fellows will:
  • join a cohort of like-minded peers discovering the many facets of science, mathematics, or computer science,
  • enjoy regular group discussions with the cohort,
  • receive one-on-one advising tailored to fellows’ backgrounds and interests with a faculty mentor,
  • work closely with peer tutors majoring in science and math,
  • have a paid research assistantship with a faculty member starting in their first semester and the option of a summer research internship after their first year, and
  • meet with scientists and researchers from other institutions.
